Education: Short Courses

NEXTOR co-sponsors short courses with the FAA that are open to any FAA, federal government, or industry affiliate employee interested in air transportation systems analysis.  Short courses are taught by faculty members from NEXTOR universities and are designed for mid-senior level managers and decision makers. Upcoming short course:

NEXTOR Short Course: Airport Systems Planning and Design, November 15-18, 2010

This intensive course provides an introduction to the broad range of issues that arise in planning airport systems and the development of new and existing airports, as well as the design of airport facilities to handle both aircraft and passenger demand.

Past short courses include:

NEXTOR Short Course: Analysis of Air Transportation Systems: Nextgen and Beyond, January 9-11, 2008.

A three-day computer supported short course that addressed basic techniques to study the complexities of NextGen. This course covered the fundamental of aviation system analysis techniques including optimization, analytical techniques and simulation topics. The short-course included hand-on exercises using Matlab and Excel to illustrate the use of computer methods to study components of NextGen. The course was taught by Dr. Antonio A. Trani (Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech).

NEXTOR Short Course: Airport Systems Planning and Design: 35th Annual Short Course, November 6-9, 2006.

This intensive course provided an introduction to the broad range of issues that arise in planning airport systems and the development of new and existing airports, as well as the design of airport facilities to handle both aircraft and passenger demand.

NEXTOR Short Course: Aviation Infrastructure Economics, October 14-15, 2004.

This 2-day course focused on theory and application in the field of National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure management, maintenance, economics, strategy and policies. Optimization techniques for making better NAS infrastructure management decisions were introduced and applied to real-world problems.

NEXTOR Short Course: Optimization/Heuristics Techniques in Air Transportation, June 1-2, 2004.

A three-day short course that described optimization and heuristic techniques used in aviation system analysis. The course was taught by Dr. Dusan Teodorovic (Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech). Held at Virginia Tech, Falls Church, VA.

NEXTOR Short Course: Equity and Fair Resource Allocation in Air Traffic Management, May, 2003.

Held at University of Maryland, College Park, MD
