Homework Assignment 1

Due : 1pm, March 5, 2003.

Problem 1

If you don't already have a home page, create a file called Welcome.html inside the ../pub i.e.,

    >> cd ../pub
    >> vi Welcome.html

and type in and test a minimal HTML document (see page 27 in the Yellow reader).

Goto the ENCE 202 "class participants" page, and check that it is correctly linked to your home page. Please let us know if the link doesn't work.

Create a link from your home page to a second web page containing your resume. Use the <table> tags in HTML to create a nicely formatted resume displaying your accomplishments in life to date. Note. I suggest that you simply copy another resume and edit the details -- I will explain how to do this in class.

Problem 2

Let's suppose that your entire family has decided to visit Australia for a two week vacation. Develop a web page that contains an image of downtown Sydney and links to:

The Australian Embassy in DC (you'll need to check visa requirements for US citizens before leaving).
Links to the home pages of three airlines that fly to Australia.
A page containing a streetmap of downtown Sydney.
A page containing information of hotel accomodations in Sydney.
A page containing information on restaurants in the Sydney area.
Three pages for tourist attractions in the Sydney area (e.g., Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour, Bondi Beach). (Note the spelling!!).
Three major tourist attractions in Australia (e.g., Ayers Rock, Surfers Paridise, Great Barrier Reef).
An airline that flys domestic routes within Australia.

The grader -- that's me! -- will visit your site and grade the homework soon after the due date.
