Elective courses: Master of Science in Systems Engineering
In addition to completing the core requirements, master’s degree students must choose four to six elective courses in the following eight specialization areas:
• Information systems
• Computer and software systems
• Communications and networking systems
• Signal processing systems
• Control systems
• Process systems
• Manufacturing systems
• Operations research
Four (4) elective courses must be taken within one specialization area to satisfy the requirement for the thesis option. Six (6) elective courses must be taken within no more than two specialization areas for the non-thesis option. The following courses are approved within each specialization. Additional courses having adequate systems content may be substituted with authorization from the student’s academic advisor and approval by the MSSE (ENSE) graduate director. Not all electives may be offered in the semester desired; students are responsible for meeting prerequisites.
Current information about the courses listed below can be obtained online through the A. James Clark School of Engineering web site at www.eng.umd.edu.
