Jeff McKinney honored with USM Staff Award

Director of Computing Jeff McKinney is the recipient of a 2011 Board of Regents University System of Maryland Staff Award in the “Effectiveness and Efficiency—Administrative Transformation” category. This is the highest honor the Board bestows to recognize distinguished performance and achievements of exempt and nonexempt staff from institutions within the University System of Maryland.

Only eight recipients from the entire Maryland University System are annually selected to receive Regents Staff Awards, and only one award is given in the “Effectiveness and Efficiency—Administrative Transformation” category. University employees are nominated by their campus community and selected by the Council of University Systems Staff.

McKinney was honored for results of seven years working to improve the technological resources and performance of ISR and the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics and Math. McKinney’s efforts have produced transformational change—the four units now run effectively with less than half the number of staff members.

“I feel flattered to be recognized and I'm thankful for the opportunities I have had at UMD,” McKinney said. “My team, including our excellent student workers, is great and they are the ones that enable such an organization to efficiently and effectively serve the four units.”
