ISR alum Xiaobo Tan wins NSF CAREER Award

Congratulations to ISR alum and current Michigan State University ECE Assistant Professor Xiaobo Tan. He has won a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award for his research, "Dexterous Biomimetic Micromanipulation Using Artificial Muscles: Modeling, Sensing and Control."

At MSU, Tan directs the Smart Microsystems Laboratory and is part of an interdisciplinary research team on High Assurance Systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2002 and was a research associate with ISR. He was co-advised by Professor John S. Baras (ECE/ISR) and Professor P.S. Krishnaprasad (ECE/ISR). He also worked with Associate Professor Reza Ghodssi (ECE/ISR).

The NSF CAREER program fosters the career development of outstanding junior faculty, combining the support of research and education of the highest quality and in the broadest sense.
