Homework 1. Due February 21, 2005.

The purpose of this assignment is to build a two-level model of system-level behavior for fragments of your systems project.

Model Construction

Starting with the relevant scenarios developed in ENSE 621:

Identify the key objects that will participate in (or generate) the system behavior.
Construct basic message sequence charts for individual tasks. Annotate each message sequence chart with appropriate events, actions, interactions and message labels.
Create a high-level message sequence chart for behavior corresponding to graphs of tasks.

To keep your graphical representation uniform, I suggest that you draw each basic message sequence chart with all of the particpating objects, even if a particular object does not participate in the sequence of messages corresponding to a task.

Manual Model Analysis

For each major pathway through the model of behavior, identify the relevant sets of scenarios that would lead to this pathway.
Identify requirements (and or constraints) that a practical implementation might need to satisfy.
Are there any pathways in your model that have not been explicitly defined in your set of scenaios?

What to hand in ....

Hand in diagrams of your basic message sequence charts, the high-level message sequence chart, and sample traces through the behavior model annotated with suitable explanations for what they mean in practice.
