Dr. Hisham Abdalla is conducting research on bat echolocation with Timothy Horiuchi. Dr. Murat Aytekin is conducting research with Cynthia Moss. His research entails taking measurements and modeling the sonar beam pattern of echolocating bats. Dr. Yi Cheng is conducting research with Gary Rubloff on the synthesis, integration, and evaluation of nanostructures. Some of his work is aimed at advancing the bioMEMS technologies for biomolecular reactions, sensing, and metabolic engineering. Other aspects of his work is addressing new opportunities in nanostructures for energy applications, electrical energy storage, and/or solar cell nanodevices. Dr. Chen Chiu is conducting research with Cynthia Moss on behavioral experiments and modeling of flight control in echolocating bats. Dr. Stephen David is conducting research with Shihab Shamma on auditory computations, participating in the development of the Neural Systems Lab’s custom data acquisition software and physiology database, and assisting with surgeries on animals. Dr. Daniel Hertz is conducting research with Jonathan Simon through the Department of Biology. He is working on auditory processing in human listeners, using magnetoencephalography. Dr. Pedram Hovareshti is conducting research with John Baras on collaborative robotics, related communication network issues, and microrobotic autonomous teams. Dr. Tao Jiang is conducting research with John Baras on communications and social networking and intrusion detection. Dr. Svetlana Lachinova is conducting research with Mikhail Vorontsov on the analysis of laser tracking systems operating in atmospheric turbulence conditions for laser communication applications and the development of numerical simulation tools for characterization of atmospheric laser beam propagation parameters in laser tracking systems. Dr. Ling Liu is conducting research on the development of new generation of free-space laser communications and optical energy projection systems with Mikhail Vorontsov. |
Dr. Nima Mesgarani is conducting research with Shihab Shamma on speech detection and enhancement and voice identification. Dr. Ernst Polnau is conducting research with Mikhail Vorontsov on experimental adaptive optics for free-space laser communication and active imaging applications. Dr. Ashley Predith is working with Gary Rubloff and other researchers involved with the Energy Frontier Research Center. She will support the research and scientific activities of the EFRC, assist with strategizing future directions of the research and efforts to secure additional funding, and write/publish articles about energy technology and materials science. Dr. Ayan Roy-Chowdhury is conducting research with John Baras on modeling and simulation of wireless and satellite networks using OPNET and other simulators, to transition the NRL MANE emulator to the cluster machine and to support the research group on Component based Routing with high performance computing experiments on the cluster. Dr. Petr Svec is conducting research with S.K. Gupta through a Mechanical Engineering Department appointment. He is working on development of planning framework for virtual assembly and unmanned vehicles. Dr. Eric Tytell is conducting research with Avis Cohen on the lamprey spinal cord and its interactions with the edge cells, the mechanoreceptors. Dr. Daniel Winkowski is conducting research with Shihab Shamma on sounds processing in the auditory cortex. Dr. Ping-Bo Yin is conducting researech with Shihab Shamma and Jonathan Fritz on the auditory cortex in the behaving ferret. |
