Alum Serban Sabau joins Stevens Institute as assistant professor

Alumnus Serban Sabau (EE Ph.D. 2011) will be joining the Stevens Institute of Technology's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department as a tenure-track assistant professor on Aug. 1. Sabau's research interests are in decentralized decision making and control, sparse modeling and optimization in networked systems. For his Ph.D. thesis he worked on state-of-the-art algorithms for designing optimal, decentralized control systems.

At Maryland, Sabau was advised by Associate Professor Nuno Martins (ECE/ISR) and was involved in projects such as Martins' NSF CAREER Award "Distributed control of dynamic systems using a wireless communication medium: two new paradigms," the AFOSR MURI "Distributed Learning and Information Dynamics in Networked Autonomous Systems" and the NSF CNS grant, "Ant-Like Microrobots--Fast, Small, and Under Control."

Prior to taking this position, Sabau was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, working with Professor Ali Jadbabaie.
