News stories about Dr. Cohen

Research Interests

Adaptive sensors and circuits for biosensing, energy scavenging, RFID, imagers, filters and controllers; algorithm development for real-time signal and image processing ameanable to VLSI integration; low power integrated circuits; high voltage integrated circuits for actuation and control of MEMS and OE-MEMS devices

Background Information

Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Institute for Systems Research and a Principal Investigator in the Center for Integrated Security Logistics at the University of Maryland. He is an expert in low power mixed signal VLSI circuits for real-time sensor signal processing. He has designed several new types of auto-adaptive VLSI controllers and sensors. Dr. Cohen received a BSc. ('78) and MSc. ('83) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and an MS. in Biomedical Engineering ('91) and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering ('01) from Johns Hopkins University , Baltimore , MD. His interests lie in low power design of analog and mixed signal integrated circuits, learning/adaptation algorithms and their implementation for sensor signal processing and in RF design for Radio Frequency Identification tags with sensors and energy harvesting for logistics and prognostics.
