Title: “The Motion of Autonomous Vehicles: Single Agents, Teams, and Swarms”

Abstract: Autonomous vehicles are rapidly becoming mainstream and will reshape industries from transportation and entertainment to planetary exploration and space-based commerce and mineral extraction. Examples abound: Amazon's delivery drones, Intel's quadrotor swarm at the Superbowl halftime show, and billions of dollars being invested in vehicular autonomy. Autonomous vehicles *move*, by definition, which means that motion planning is a critical component of any unmanned vehicle or multi-agent system. In this talk I will describe my work on motion planning for single vehicles (fixed-wing aircraft, rovers), teams of vehicles (quadrotor aircraft, robots), and swarms with hundreds of robots. Specific topics include: search and rescue, flying in windy environments, replanning in response to unexpected environmental changes, and multi-agent cooperation and coordination in the presence of unreliable communication.
