Dimitris Tsakiris

Dr. Dimitris P. Tsakiris is a research scientist with the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH in Heraklion, Greece and a faculty member of the Graduate Program in the Brain and Mind Sciences of the University of Crete. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. While at the University of Maryland, he was affiliated with the Institute for Systems Research. He has been a Marie Curie/TMR postdoctoral fellow with the robotics group Icare of the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in Sophia-Antipolis, France, and a visiting professor with the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Crete. His research interests lie in the areas of sensor-based robot navigation and control, undulatory locomotion, nonlinear control and computational vision. He has participated in numerous national and European R&D projects and is currently the FORTH principal investigator for the IST-FET project BIOLOCH.
