History
The Hybrid Networks Laboratory
(HNL) was established in 1996 by Dr. John S. Baras. Spyro Papademetriou, the first
lab manager, designed the infrastructure of the laboratory to create a hybrid network
testbed.
Due to a grant from the Department
of Defense (DoD), the lab has expanded and now includes the following equipment: 4
ATM Switches, 9 Sun Workstations, a large number of PCs and Laptops, 2 Wireless LANs, its
own Internet Domain, HP Broadband Protocol Analyzer, and an ADTECH Data Channel Simulator.
In addition, we have network
connectivity to the Internet through an OC3 link to the University of Maryland's ATM
backbone. We also have an OC3 link to ATDNet and DirecPC.
