Position Announcement: Research Associate Position in Virtual Assembly Software Development Area. The Computer Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory at the University of Maryland invites applications from qualified researchers for a research associate position. We are looking for applicants with detailed knowledge of Geometric Modeling, Computer Graphics, and Computational Geometry areas. In addition, the candidate should have very strong C++ programming skills. Familiarity with CAD systems is highly desired. The applicant should have an advanced degree (either MS or PhD) in Engineering or Computer Science. The start date for the position is March, 2008. The selected applicant will contribute to development of new algorithms and prototype software to perform assembly in the virtual environment. The position will require close collaboration with researchers at the Energetics Technology Center and hence give candidate an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Candidates should send their CVs and names of three references to: Dr. Satyandra K. Gupta, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742. Phone: 301-405-5306. FAX: 301-314-9477. Email: skgupta@umd.edu Sean Gahagan won the 2007 Lean Student Paper Competition with his paper on Adding Value to Value Stream Mapping: A Simulation Model Template for VSM. Sean will be presenting his paper at the IIE Annual Conference in Nashville. Ali Pilehvar and Sana Shaikh both finished their theses and have earned their M.S. in Systems Engineering. Ali's thesis developed queueing network approximations for mass dispensing and vaccination clinics. Sana's thesis developed a technique for designing a decision-making system for medical disaster mutual aid. |
