Workshop Announcement Applications are being solicited to attend a two-day workshop at the National Science Foundation on March 29-30, 2004. The purpose of the workshop is to identify research areas, to foster inter-disciplinary collaborations, and to recommend future research directions to NSF that will enable control and system integration on the micro- and nano-length scales. Applications are invited from a broad spectrum of researchers with capabilities relevant to micro/nano systems, control, and system integration, including: micro and nano scale fabrication, control theory, systems integration, optimization, measurement and detection on small length scales, modeling, bio-chemical systems, and other topics relevant to the micro/nano control and system integration theme. Breakout sessions at the workshop will be loosely organized based on the following sub-topics: - MEMS Design/Fabrication, Devices, and Systems Special emphasis will be placed on identifying needs and bottlenecks on the path towards control and system integration: what tools, techniques, collaborations, basic science understanding, and educational resources are needed to enable integrated systems on the micro and nano scales? How to apply The application process for this workshop is now closed. The committee is reviewing the applications and decisions will be available by Wed March 10th. Electronic applications are strongly encouraged by Wednesday, Feb. 25, but are due no later than Monday, March 1. Attendance cannot exceed 90 people due to space considerations at the workshop venue. Workshop participants will be chosen by the organizing committee and will be notified of acceptance by email in late February and early March. Logistics and fees Logistical details including accomodations, exact location and so forth will be distributed by email and will be listed on this web site. Travel expenses will be covered by the National Science Foundation. Questions?
